Conference activities 'for specialist people-management training'
Conference activities could be used by companies hoping to train staff in specialist people management skills, as one expert argues looking after volunteer workers is very different from doing the same job with paid staff.Tina Thompson, director of Third Sector Management Solutions, explains: "You're not paying people, so dealing with motivation is very important. Volunteer reliability is very important."
A conference activity focusing on this key area might ensure organisations that rely on unwaged assistance are able to consolidate and expand, as the charity expert notes the resources need to be in place to carry out this particular work.
Valuing Volunteer Management, a report published on Monday (August 31st) by Skills – Third Sector, showed almost half those who manage unpaid workers have not received any training, which could result in falling levels of commitment among crucial members of a team.
It reveals the sector is "undervalued and underfunded in many organisations", so a conference activity might be ideal to resolve the problem before staff and skills are lost.
