9 Business Quotes from Alan Sugar Rated and Slated

Lord Sugar has come up with some great business quotes, and others that didn't quite hit the mark. Here are 9 of his most popular that we've rated.

  1. “Not everybody needs to go to university; they can get out and start working straight away.” Some members of our team don't have a degree and they've done some incredible work for Off Limits. We have to agree with Lord Sugar on this one; while we can see the merit in a degree education it's not the be all and end all of employability. Experience is. RATING: Good.

  2. “I've just got an exceptional memory, if I say so myself.” Hit and miss on this one Shugs. Let's not forget how you allowed the guys team to buy a cheap inflatable dinghy in this challenge, but disallowed Felipe's paper skeleton last season! RATING: Contradictory.

  3. “Why work when you can fill out a few forms and get paid for doing nothing?” Every human being finds merit from smashing a task and bettering themselves. That's what happens when you work. Lord Sugar doesn't quite get the point of work here. RATING: Don't take it seriously, he was just being sarcastic!

  4. “Mistakes are proof you're trying every option available. Your boss will appreciate you for it. RATING: True.

  5. “If you take care of your character, your reputation will take care of itself.” Again, no truer words spoken. The way you come across to people is determined by what you are like as a person. RATING: Good.

  6. “Don't try to blame the rest of the world. The blame only lies with you. Recognise that immediately.” It's a tough medicine to swallow, but true in most circumstances. You are responsible for your actions. RATING: Harsh but true.

  7. “Love what you do and do what you love; otherwise you will become unhappy and self-defeating.” If you hate your job, then you won't work to your maximum potential. Do yourself a favour and always look for what makes you happiest. RATING: True.

  8. “I can tell you where every screw, nut and bolt is in my company. I know everything [in my business]. Never, ever, underestimate me.” Know your business inside and out, to get the best of each area and every person. RATING: True.

  9. “I think practical explanations are always best.” I don't know about you, but Powerpoint bores me to tears, a practical touch is way more interesting. RATING: True.
